It'll allow Mesmer to be able to handle contesting nodes with the loss of Distortion as a defensive (instead blocking for 3s) and having a unique utility to use Distortion instead of built-in. I suspect lots of tuning will be required for it when it comes out due to the RAW damage I saw on that elite skill. I don't mean to sound rude, because I don't really like being this way, but.. this is what happens when you use a level boost without 1st playing ANY of the game, and not having a clue as to what's goin on.
Now, you say its rephrasing of an elite spec. Which it isn't and here's why. Elite specializations come with a new weapon, a completely new specialization with12 new traits, a new profession mechanic and 6 new utility. Any one of these parts does not equal a whole. New traits don't mean a new elite specialization.

An elite specialization grants access to a new weapon that profession can't normally wield, a handful of new utility skills (for slot 6-0), and it alters the base profession mechanics (IE, Reaper spec makes Necromancer's Shroud become Reaper's Shroud, Firebrand makes Guardian Virtues into wieldable Tomes, Berserker lets a Warrior use Berserk So elite specializations bring 4 things to the table: 1- new traits 2- new utilities 3- new profession mechanics 4- new elite specialization weapon In many cases, #4 is the least impactful. Every hero challenge in the expansion gives you 10 points. I always do a quick run through the HoT maps and get the easy hero Points that just require you to press f on the commune point, that should get you about 100 Hero Points, then I do every PoF hero point because they are all soloable. hBcpa0a.
