Yes, exactly. If you read their review of the Olympus 12-40/4 Pro, a lens I have owned, you'll find that this lens uncorrected at 12 mm has a distortion very similar to that of the RF 24-105/4-7.1 at 24 mm. But in this case they say that it doesn't matter, it's the corrected result that counts.

At 24mm & 105mm @ f/4 you will have to live with a heavy light-falloff of 2.6EV (f-stops) and 2.1EV respectively. It's a bit less in the middle range at this aperture. Stopping down to f/5.6 helps a lot in the medium to upper focal length range. At 24mm you may wish to stop down to f/8 if needed.”.

The RF 24-105 is a USM type lens. There are two different RF 24-105 lenses. I think you are talking about the RF 24-105 F4L IS, which is USM. The OP was asking about the RF 24-105 F4-7.1 IS STM. Maybe some other posters were also confused, and were talking about the L version, instead of the STM version? It also supports the faster ES frame rates.
In re: the RF 24-105 f4.0-7.1 STM, yes there is distortion and vignetting at 24mm. Vignetting is gone at 28mm. Both vignetting and distortion are corrected by the camera and can be adjusted further in either Lightroom or Canon DPP. Post processed, the images are fine. Here is one I shot with the RF 24-105 f4.0-7.1 STM @ 24mm at a local airport.
Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM review – Resolution. Our lab test demonstrates that the EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is sharpest when used at the wide end of the focal range, but conversely this is also the point at which there is the greatest fall-off from edge to centre – until f/11, where the best overall sharpness occurs.
Here is a Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM review, a more budget-oriented lens option for the EOS R full frame mirrorless camera system. Christopher Frost Photography posted a 12min video where he discusses the features and performance of the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM: F3vT.
