You get ascended shards at the end of every rewards chest. I think 1200 in all until you hit the repeatable rewards, just short of 1300 needed for a full set of armor, at which point it may or may not cap on the shard gain until next season. We wont know until someone hits it. you get 3 pips for losing 10 for winning. to get 300 ascended shards
Sobx.1758. Here is a thought, how about if there was a path for upgrading your existing Exotic armor/weapons/trinkets to Ascended armor/weapons/trinkets. An easy way to allow new and old players a way to upgrade their existing equipment. Salvage exotics, add the remaining 99% of the materials and craft ascended gear.
Huge no. Living story season 3 is the most easy and cheap way to acquire trinkets, followed by laurels and guild commendations for core stat ascended trinkets. None of them require pve (but bitterfrost frontier farm takes like 10-15 minutes per character at most) since all of currencies can be acquired through reward tracks/daily logins/ wvw
Keep in mind that ascended trinkets are actually much bigger upgrade than armor. Easiest way to get these will be from living world season 3 maps so I would suggest getting that. GW2 crafts is a good site for grafting guides. For the first set of weapons and armor crafting will be the best way to go. and you want the professions up early anyway.
An easy way to get an ascended sword is from the PoF elite spec collections. There should be 2 options for you there (holo and weaver). For a focus, I don’t think there’s any cheap fast ways. Just the normal way you’d get ascended weapons: fractal drops, strike currencies, crafting. fictitiousacct.
Ascended is the best gear in the game: you can't get anything better (Legendary is a "higher" tier but has only extra cosmetic and convenience features, not higher numbers). As a very rough back-of-the-envelope estimation, a full set of Ascended will cost you about 300 gold as well as some materials that can only be obtained through gameplay.
Make sure to get trinkets first since they are easy to get and have the highest stat impact beside weapons. Also some stats (Core Tyria/Vanilla) are easier to obtain (e.g. beserker stats) since you can get the trinkets with guild currency from the missions or laurels. For selectable stats check LW maps.

Viper ascended is easier then viper exo :) For Viper Exo you need to farm the Tarir meta to collect all the recipes you need and buy the exo Insigne/Inscription at Tarir Merchant and craft them.
