As you might expect, there’s a significant weight savings to be had by converting your 890 Adventure to this unit from the stock one. The stock KTM exhaust weighs 7.7 kg, or just under 17 pounds.
Most of the adventure bikes that weight less than 500 lbs have engine capacities that are 750 cc and smaller. The KTM 890 Adventure R is a notable exception, weighing only 463 lbs (210 kg) despite it’s very powerful 889 cc engine. The adventure bikes that weigh more than 500 lbs all have engines that are at least a 1 000 cc.
The KTM 890 Adventure R has blazed a trail in the mid-weight adventure bike market since it was first launched in 2019. Back then it was known as the 790 Adventure R, but an upgrade two years into its production life led to an increase in engine capacity, along with the number written on the side of the fairing.
Joined: May 17, 2010. Oddometer: 11,404. Location: Star Tannery, VA. As I recall I ran +3 preload up front and 4 turns in on the preload on the shock with the stock R setup. I'm probably around 190-195 in full gear. It seemed to be about the best I could come up with with the stock suspension.
